Today marks the first in a third and final companion series with Train (aka Ramit)’s photographs. As you may recall, the first involved Ramit taking pictures to accompany existing songs of mine. The second involved me writing songs to accompany existing pictures. In this part of the miniseries, we’ve agreed ahead of time on 7 themes (which I’ll use as the titles of my songs) which we will each compose/photograph to, not sharing our results until both are done. Above is Ramit’s photographic, and below is my musical contribution to the title for the day, “A is for August.”
—Lyrics—
a is for august and a is also awful it’s true, it’s true
j is in january, all the resolutions i left in june
what are we waiting for, man, it’s gonna be cold soon
oh, such a peaceful place let me lie in the sunshine to fry
oh, all the withered faces i left in the mirror to dry
i’m a california raisin sometimes
s is for sleeping an s is also super it’s true, it’s true
c is for city and aren’t we happy for it to keep its plume
b is for books and i hope that brooklyn’s keping itself in tune
what are we waiting for, man, it’s gonna be cold soon
such a beautiful life a beautiful life
a is for august and a is also awful it’s true
