Day 167: My Memory Came to Me (Train + Ace Reporter)

Day 2 of my week-long collaboration with Ramit (aka Train), who’s in the midst of his own 365 project. Here’s his June 1 photograph:

—Lyrics—

stopped on the sidewalk by a passerby in the evening
excuse me my friend but can i take your time
i am trying to find an address i know i’ve been before
but i must be lost
i looked at the paper where he’d left his scrawl, saying
this town ain’t so big you are quite near to your goal
you have only to walk to the end of the block and turn downhill
you will find it there
he left with a thanks and a wave and an awkward grin
i turned and i started to make my way again, walking nowhere
then a tap on my shoulder and there he stood and said
i know you from before
we were soldiers in the war
you were from knoxville tennessee
you are a ut man like me
there must be some mistake
i’ve never left my home state
i live in the house where i grew up
when i’m restless i take the train to town
he frowned and he opened his mouth as if to speak
then he nodded and turned on his heels and went on his way
then i looked up to the sky and saw above on a high wire
the globe of a lamp set against the cobalt sky and my memory came to me
my memory came to me

Pretty powerful song. Loved the story you tell.

  2. Wow, love what you did with this song/pic Chris. So exciting for me to hear the pictures come to life.
